Racing has always played an important role in the automotive industry. In GearCity, this is no exception. Racing in the game will increase your global and racing image, and it can increase your Design Skills as well. Any improvements to your global image will increase the sales of all your vehicles. And improvements to your racing image will help sales of sporty vehicles. Improvements to your Design Skills will unlock new sub-components faster. Racing can also provide a source of income, although most of the time, it costs more to race than you make. If you use the contracting system and become a supplier, you can make a profit from the sport. To access the racing system, click the door, and then Racing. Click the “Setup” button in the upper left corner of the screen to start or edit a racing team. This is the racing window. In this window, you will start or adjust your racing teams. You can also view the competition in a series and easily see your results. Here is a list of racing series. At the top are filters to reduce the number of series in the list. You are not racing in the red series, but you are racing in the green series. These listing colors do not include official or unofficial contracted designs. This panel includes information about the selected racing series. Some key information to look for is the supply type, limitations or regulations, popularity, and expenses. There are three different supply types Vehicles, Engines, or funding. The types correspond to your involvement in the series. With popularity, this is how popular the series is. The more popular a series is, the greater effect the series has on your image ratings. These buttons allow you to view your competition, results for the current year, and past champions. At the bottom of the Racing Window is where you’ll set up or edit your racing team. As previously mentioned, there are three different supply types. Each supply type creates a different panel at this location, but the layout is the same for each. Your current budget for the series is here. If this is $0, then you are not racing in this series. Projected Costs is the budget amount you will set if you save the changes. And you adjust that budget with this slider. This lock checkbox will lock the slider percentage. Once a year, the budget range for racing increases. By locking this checkbox, the game will update your budget to the percentage within that range. Please note, the racing budget range and your budget update does not happen on the same turn. But it will happen before racing starts. This area is where you’ll select your vehicle or engine for the racing team. If you selected a funding series, you will only need to provide funding for the teams. Clicking the button will open the selection screen. The list will only display designs that meet the requirements for the series. Upon selecting a design, the red text box displays the name of the design. Below this section, there is an estimation of your racing team’s ability. The higher this rating, the more competitive your team is. The game does not give you an estimation for your competitor's entries. Instead, it provides this rating for you to judge which designs give you a better edge to win. At the bottom is a text box that allows you to change the name of your team. Here you’ll find the “Team Focus” or “Series Focus” button. What is the difference? There are two types of racing series for manufacturers in the game. In some series, you supply only one racing team. You do not own this racing team, but you can adjust that team’s focus. In other series, you supply multiple teams. In these series, you don’t demand specific focuses for individual teams. Instead, you adjust what kind of teams you want to recruit in the series. This button will open up either the Team Focus or Series Focus panel. Looking at the team focus panel, you’ll find your focus settings and an information panel. Hovering over any item in this window will display information about that setting. The top slider adjusts the quality of driver you want the team to hire. Experienced drivers and team members are more likely to win races, but they take away funding from operations. When this happens, the team will suffer, and you won’t win races. Likewise, inexperienced team members and drivers allow for more funding for operations. The more funding you provide can increase your chances of winning and improve your research development results. The "Focus On" slider adjusts whether your team should focus on winning or development. When focusing on development, your team’s experience points increases. The more experienced your team is, the better your chances are at winning races. More focus on development also increases your company’s RnD Skill bonuses. Focusing on winning decreases your team’s experience points, but it increases your chances of winning. The decrease is because your team will put less effort into training new talent and more effort into getting things done. This focus results in brain drain when it comes time to replace team members. You can find your team's and other team's current experience levels in the View Competition window for the series. The Series Focus panel is very similar to the Team Focus panel. The top slider changes your focus on the pace you recruit new teams. If you go at a slow pace, you will sign higher quality but fewer teams. If you try to recruit new teams quickly, you'll end up with lesser quality teams, but more of them. The middle slider changes your focus on signing large teams or small teams. Smaller teams are easier to sign but have fewer entries in races. You’ll also have a greater impact on these teams with the Focus On slider. Larger teams are harder to sign but give you more entries in a race. The “Focus On” slider is the same as the Team Focus panel. Finally, at the bottom of both panels is a drop-down that lets you select the marque you use for the racing series or team. Racing and global image bonuses affect whichever marque you select here. When you’re ready to start or edit your team, click the “Set Funding” button. If you wish to stop racing in this series, click the “Stop Program” button. ~~How are races and championships won?~~ Opening the current results window will open the results for the current racing season. You'll find a list of series on the left and the current results on the right. In the current results, you'll find three columns, the name of the team, victories, and points. At the end of the season, whichever team has the most points wins the championship. Both championships and wins greatly improve your racing image and global image ratings. Wins give you the most points, but you also gain points for other results. So how does the game determine who wins races, and how many points you get per race? The game uses your design specs, budgets, team sliders, and a little bit of luck to generate a rating. That rating is then compared to other team's ratings and sorted in order of finishers for each race. Supplied vehicle results in order of importance HP Bonus. For a more detailed breakdown of how results are generated, see the Formula wiki. Depending on how many teams are racing in the series, the game will award you series points and prize money based on your results. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season wins the championship.
